In fact, there are 16,890 taste testers employed annually according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 2010. To be one, you must meet some of qualifications.

Volunteering and part time work

You might not have a bachelor’s degree yet to any food related course, but you can start your career through volunteering. You may go to food fairs and observe how different meals are served. They may need volunteer taste testers, so give it a try to slowly build your confidence.

Having a part time job at any restaurant will also help a lot.  Assisting chefs do their job will be a good foundation. Food preparation is necessary to learn when you want to become a taste tester. The earlier you learn that, the better.

Have a college degree

Food companies when hiring, would always prefer taste testers who have a degree in culinary arts. Also a degree major in food technology and processing is accepted in this field. If you excel during your college years, a recommendation from your school would be great to show your capacity in this field.

If you do not have a degree, consider taking trainings on related courses. There are a lot of universities that offer food related courses that you might want to enroll in.

Master the skill

Tasting is not just about telling what you think about what you just ate. There are a lot of factors to consider. You will learn it while in school but practice makes it perfect. Attending seminars related to food preparation is a must to enhance your knowledge to new trends. Always learn from anything you encounter. Take short term trainings even when you work because this will put you ahead from others.

Satisfy your taste

As a taste tester, you should be familiar with different cuisines. Do not just stick on what you know. Explore. Visiting different restaurants and even countries will help you understand the diversity of food when it comes to nationality. This is also a way to satisfy yourself for a complete meal rather than just merely food tasting.

Be open for bigger opportunities

You may be in a company as a taste tester right now but the world is big for you to conquer. Most taste testers are in a company for a short period of time only for product testing and may shift to another after. If you think you are better off for bigger companies, take the risk.

An experience in the field that you like most is an important thing for you to get hired in this career. Getting a job being a taste tester is fun and satisfying. The only thing to remember always is to excel and to love your work for you to be happy in this type of job.
