Every average employee wants to know how to deal with a moody boss. Practically all bosses all over the world have some kind of unique moody personality. They seem to have that belief that they have the right to be moody because they are, well, at the top of the ladder. And, indeed, they are a bit right.
The difficulty with this kind of boss is that it is almost impossible to figure out whether what you are doing is right or wrong. Life becomes more difficult for you because you do not know what kind of mood he or she is in any moment of the day.
However, there is a way with which you can be happy even if you have a moody boss around.
Do what he wants you to do
Basically, you boss – any boss, for that matter – only wants what is good for your company. He expects everyone to do what he says because as the head of your company or department, he knows more than anyone else about what is good for the company. A moody boss becomes more moody if he feels that his plan or project is falling apart. As such, if you wish to avoid your moody boss from exploding, then do what he wants you to do.
Of course, this depends on what your boss wants you to do. If you think that he is doing what is right, if there is nothing corruptive about his instructions, then you have to do as he says. If he, on the other hand, asks you to do something to your disadvantage, then you have to speak out.
Do your job well
A boss, moody or not, will always explode or get angry if they see an employee not working as he or she should. If you do your work, and you do it properly all the time, then there is no reason for your boss to be mad at you.
Malingerers are people who are the liabilities of any company. Nobody wants them around. If you are a malingerer, then your boss has every reason to reprimand you all the time. As a matter of fact, there is even a possibility that you will be demoted, or even fired. Malingerers, more than anything else, make a moody boss even more moody.
Wear a smile all the time
A smile is contagious. Smile all the time and, sooner or later, your boss will, too. No matter how angry or moody he might be, just force a smile. Never answer anger with anger, as this will only make things worse.
If you have problems with your boss, do not try to confront him head on. If you are angry, and your boss is angry, do not even think of talking to him. Your boss is in the position of power, you are in a position of weakness. You are a subordinate, he is your superior. Whether you like it or not, you need to act as you should: a subordinate.
