“What do I want with my life?” If you have asked this question to yourself, but did not get an answer in return, then you are not alone. This question is up there with “What is my purpose in life?” or “What is the one true religion?” in the list of inquiries that are difficult or even downright impossible to answer. Still, this is something that you should definitely try to find an answer to, as following this would define as to whether you would feel if you have lived your life to the fullest, and it would also pave the road to the path that you would take in the many years to come.
Empty your mind
Throughout our lives, we have been told of things to do and of the things that you should avoid. They, in this context, could be your parents, your teachers, your old boss, or even your spouse. But this is your life, and you can do whatever you want with it, as long as you’re not hurting anybody and as long as you know that it will have a positive impact on your life, as well as in the lives of the people that you care about. It’s time to dump all of the expectations of others and ask yourself, “What is it that you REALLY want?”
Write it all down
Get a pen an paper and write down all of your dreams from childhood up to the present. It doesn’t matter how improbable it might be – write it all down. Read and reread your list once it has been completed and determine as to which are just fantasies and which are the ones that you see yourself doing and loving indefinitely. Do this again and again until you find the one that was left. The one that remained is the one that you want to do with your life.
Act on it!
Once you’ve found what you want to do with your life, take action. It doesn’t matter if you want to buy your own house, or start a family, or put up your own business, only you have the ability to turn your dream into reality. Take small steps and ask for help from family or friends that are willing to support you in this endeavor. Slowly but surely, you will be able to see yourself that much closer to reaching your dream.
Once you’ve decided with what you want to do with your life, you will feel a lot of satisfaction as you now a solid mission to complete. Never lose sight of your goal once you’ve found it, as only by reaching your dreams will you be able to say that you have lived a complete and satisfying life.
